20 Huge Walk In Closet Ideas With Beautiful Storage Details

Dreaming of a huge walk in closet with room for your shoes, bags and a proper dressing area? These ideas give you plenty to save, from taupe cabinets and jewelry drawers to pink displays and a closet with its own staircase.

You can keep the colors simple or go all out. There are smaller layouts and close-up storage ideas here too, so you don’t need to copy an entire room to find something worth trying.

Walk-in closet ideas worth saving

taupe cabinets and jewelry drawers

We’re starting off strong with these gorgeous taupe cabinets. I love the gold-tone handles and the shallow jewelry drawer pulled out from the island.

If you want to follow this look, mix closed cupboards with a few open shoe shelves. A round tray on the island gives your smaller decorative pieces a spot together.

a long bench and standing mirror

How pretty is this dressing area? The long gray bench sits between white cabinets with clear fronts, with a peach-colored throw at one end.

Try a freestanding full-length mirror beside your shelves like the one here. Those colorful pieces displayed above it are such a fun little surprise.

cream cabinets and a chandelier

I am obsessed with this chandelier. The dangling details look so pretty above the cream island and curved tufted seat.

There’s plenty to love beyond the lighting too. The upper shelves hold neatly spaced boxes while a small mirror and white flowers finish the back wall.

high rails and a closet ladder

Got a tall ceiling to work with? This closet has hanging space above the lower clothing rails, with white storage boxes in between.

The tall ladder is the detail that makes this one different.

I especially love the gold-tone chandelier against the white cabinetry. Save this as a layout reference to discuss with your closet designer.

a wall just for shoes

The shoe lovers are going to love this! Tall boots stand on the deeper openings to the left while heels fill the closely spaced shelves on the right.

Try planning your shelf heights around the shoes you actually own. Don’t forget a taller top shelf for bags if you want a similar setup.

a mirror at the end

Don’t want to add an island in the middle? No problem!

This narrower layout keeps the walkway open between rows of white shelves and drawers.

I love the large white-framed mirror at the end. You can see the little sparkling ceiling light reflected in it again and again.

black cabinets and a starry ceiling

If you are looking for something a little more dramatic, then this one is for you. There’s a dark island, black-framed ribbed panels and a ceiling dotted with tiny lights.

The lighting underneath the island may just be my favorite part. Try borrowing that detail if you like this look but don’t want the whole starry ceiling.

a cream vanity and tufted ottoman

This is such a pretty way to bring a dressing table into your closet. An illuminated oval mirror sits at the back, between narrow displays of handbags.

The square tufted ottoman and white flowers keep the cream-colored room looking lovely. I’d keep the island decorations grouped on trays like these.

white doors and open shoe shelves

I love this mix of clear-front doors and open shoe shelves. The narrow shelves tucked between the taller cabinets are especially worth saving.

A pale patterned runner sits beside the long bank of drawers. Try a similar subtle pattern if you want something extra without adding another bold color.

gray shelves with golden lighting

If you’re looking for a simple storage setup to build on, go with something like these gray units. The empty shelves let you see the different compartments, central drawers and shallow divided tray.

I love the golden glow inside the openings. You could reserve the narrow cubbies for small bags or folded accessories.

colorful bags on display

How gorgeous are all these colors together? Pink, yellow, blue and green bags fill the illuminated white shelves, with shoes and boxes along the bottom.

If your bags are your favorite part of getting dressed, give them their own display. Leave a little space between them like this so you can enjoy each one.

a little window seat

This window seat may just be one of my favorite details here. The spotted cushion sits between matching drawer stacks, right beneath the window.

You don’t have to fill the middle of your closet with furniture. A built-in seat at the end is another idea to consider, especially if you want an open walkway.

arched openings and brown cabinets

I am in love with these arched openings. The brown cabinetry continues through the different areas, with pale runners down the middle.

The small leafy arrangements on the counters are lovely too. Try repeating a simple decorative touch on either side if you want to follow this look.

curved seating by tall windows

Who wouldn’t want a little sitting area like this? The curved pale seats sit beside dark round tables, with tall curtains behind them.

I especially love the peach and white flowers next to the brown cabinets. A tall, narrow artwork between the windows adds another pretty detail without covering the shelves.

pink shelves and leopard print

OMG, how cute is this pink dressing room? The leopard-print back wall, pink curtains and bulb-lined vanity mirror are such a fun combination.

There are pink bags, shoes and bottles throughout the white shelving. If you want to try the color without copying the whole room, start with pink storage boxes and flowers.

a divided jewelry drawer

This is actually one of my favorite details to plan into a huge walk in closet. The wide drawer has separate spaces for watches, rings, bracelets and necklaces, all beneath a pale veined countertop.

Ask for compartments that suit your own collection rather than copying every division. I’d definitely keep those long sections for necklaces.

a closet behind the bed

Don’t have a separate dressing room? This is a different idea to save.

A tall brown partition stands behind the bed, separating it from the open clothing storage.

This isn’t a huge standalone closet, but the layout is worth a look if you’re planning a bedroom dressing area. Drawers below the hanging clothes keep the storage along one wall.

two levels and a staircase

A closet with its own staircase? This one really does go all out! Clothing storage lines both levels, with dark railings around the upper walkway.

I love the large pale island with gray veining down its sides. The illuminated shelves are a detail you could borrow even if one floor is plenty for you.

an angled mirror corner

Don’t want your full-length mirror to be an afterthought? Take a look at this corner with tall angled mirror panels and white trim above.

The reflections show rows of folded clothes and shoes across the room. Clear accessory drawers sit beside the mirrors, with another little shoe shelf underneath.

laundry beside the closet shelves

Last but definitely not least, we have this closet with a laundry area at the back. The dark front-loading machines sit beneath a counter, beside a narrow stack of white baskets.

I love that the rest of the room stays simple with white shelves and long dark drawer handles. If you’re considering a similar setup, have a professional check the plumbing and ventilation requirements before planning around it.
