20 Bedroom Trends and Pretty Ideas to Inspire Your Next Refresh

Looking for bedroom trends you’ll actually want to try? Think rounded headboards, floral wallpaper and a little more color on your bed.

These rooms give you plenty to choose from, whether you love simple cream shades or a whole pile of patterned pillows.

You can keep things simple or go all out. Start with a new bedside lamp or take inspiration from a ceiling detail. I especially love the pink and green combinations!

Bedroom ideas worth saving

rounded edges and sage green

We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous cream bed and matching rounded bench. I love the sage-green throw across the bottom and the brown pillows tucked behind the white bedding.

If you want to try these bedroom trends without changing your bed, start with the colors. Add a pleated bedside lamp for that pretty little finishing touch.

a landscape by the bed

Don’t want to fill your walls with lots of pictures? No problem!

This pale landscape hangs above the cabinet, with a tall brown vase and a lamp with a stacked base below.

Try one larger framed picture beside your bed rather than a collection of smaller ones.

slats across the ceiling

If you are looking for a true eye-catcher, then this one is for you. Those brown slats run up behind the bed and right across the ceiling!

I love the hanging globe lights on either side. The gray bedding leaves plenty of room for that ceiling to be the main attraction.

little flowers and an arched mirror

How cute is this floral bedroom? The tiny pink flowers look so pretty behind the gold-colored bed frame.

That arched mirror above it is another favorite detail.

Keep your bedding mostly white if you want to try the wallpaper, then add a pale pink pillow like the one here.

cream curtains around the bed

I am obsessed with this curtain canopy. The cream curtains hang from a dark overhead frame, with more gathered curtains behind the pillows.

There’s plenty going on even without bright colors. The piled-up bedding, patterned pillows and pale bench give you lots of little details to borrow.

olive bedding and orange lamps

This may just be one of my favorite color combinations here. I love the olive bedding with those orange dome lamps.

The framed posters pick up that orange too.

Try an orange bedside lamp if you already have green bedding. You don’t have to copy the whole room to enjoy this pairing.

bedside shelves built right in

Want your books right beside your bed? This setup has little illuminated shelves above a floating drawer, all within the same brown surround.

The blue-gray wall behind the pillows is so pretty. Save this one if you’re planning built-in storage and want something beyond a row of wardrobes.

trailing greenery and cream

I love this little bedside corner. The trailing plant hangs above a clear rounded lamp, with books and a white bowl on the shelf below.

A small vase of leafy stems is a lovely addition if you want a little greenery closer to the bed too.

a golden evening glow

How pretty is this bedroom lighting? The ceiling edges glow gold, with a shaded pendant hanging beside the bed.

If you like this look but aren’t changing your ceiling, try a dimmable bedside light with an amber glow. Keep the bulb out of direct view with a shade.

a pale green ceiling

Don’t want to paint every wall? Look up instead! This room has a pale green ceiling and a matching band around the top of the cream walls.

I especially love the decorative ceiling details. The simple bedding and small framed picture let you notice them.

dark frames and gray layers

If you’re looking for a bedroom that keeps the colors simple, go with this gray, cream and black combination. Three dark-framed prints hang above the dark bed frame.

The little striped pillow is my favorite part. Try a patterned accent pillow if your plain bedding needs something extra.

fine stripes and chocolate brown

This is such a pretty way to use brown without painting your walls. Dark pillows sit behind the striped ones, with a deep brown throw draped across the bed.

Keep the stripes narrow if you want to follow this look. I’d leave the small picture above the headboard just as simple.

gingham flowers and a bow

OMG, how adorable is that yellow bow pillow? The gingham bedding, floral pillows and pink throw are so cute together.

You can go all out with this mix or start with floral pillows on checked bedding. Don’t forget a little pink if that’s your favorite part of the room.

a pale patterned rug

This rug deserves a closer look. The pale gray pattern stretches beyond the bed, beside white curtains and a tall leafy tree.

I love the olive throw with the landscape above the headboard. Keep those darker colors on the bed if you want to try a similarly pale rug.

a window seat between wardrobes

Who wouldn’t want a little window seat like this? Tall white wardrobes frame the window, with drawers tucked beneath the seat.

The cushions and gold-colored handles keep everything simple. If you’re planning a similar arrangement, leave a little ledge for a reading lamp like the one on the right.

a little reading corner

You don’t need a whole separate room for a reading spot. This rounded cream chair sits beside a small dark table, with a floor lamp tucked behind it.

I love the two little pictures stacked on the wall. Add a patterned pillow if you want to give a plain chair the same extra detail.

a round mirror above the dresser

This is one of my favorite dresser arrangements here. The round mirror sits between two shaded wall lights, with a tall vase of branches off to one side.

Try resting a small framed picture on a stack of books, like the arrangement on the left. You don’t have to hang every piece of art.

pink stripes and fresh green

I am obsessed with this pink and green bedroom. The striped pillows look so cute against the curved headboard, especially that darker red-and-white one in front.

Pick a pale green bedcover and add pink accents to try the pairing yourself. A green bedside lamp would be a lovely extra touch.

plaid and little holiday touches

Looking for a seasonal change rather than a whole room makeover? This bedroom pairs plaid bedding with a little lighted tree and a red accent pillow.

The long bench has books on top and spare pillows underneath. I especially love the tree design on the pillow tucked below.

a wall full of favorite things

Last but definitely not least, we have this playful gallery wall. I love the mix of a tennis racket, a record, framed pictures and a pennant.

The gallery wall continues around the corner with a pinboard too.

Try mixing your own keepsakes with art instead of buying a matching set of prints. Plain bedding gives you room to get creative on the walls.
